Senior officials of the UID department said the project was picking up pace in the state and Pune city. We are next to Andhra Pradesh and we are doing well. We have had no interaction with the Central authorities to reconsider the project, one of them said. He said the project would be carried out with a deadline of March 2012 and there would be more provisions made to improve the services in the state.

The state government has recently suspended Accenture from its panel of five consulting firms constituted to oversee the rollout of the project. In a letter to the company from Nagpur,general administration department (IT) under secretary Dr Santosh Bhogle said the government had on November 26,27 and December 12 brought to the notice of the company its poor performance but failed to see any improvement thereafter.

The letter said the principal consultant for the UID project remained absent for two weeks without any communication or notice. The government termed this totally unprofessional and said it conveyed a lack of commitment towards the project. Even after repeated attempts to sensitise your organisation towards sub-standard work,we do not see any improvement, it said. The government has asked the firm to take necessary steps to improve management supervision… failing which,we will be constrained to issue a blacklisting order, it warned.
