  • The Madhya Pradesh assembly polls have turned out to be a low point for expelled BJP leader and Bharatiya Janshakti Party chief Uma Bharati, who not only suffered defeat in her home turf Tikamgarh, but also failed in making a significant dent in BJP's victory run in the state.

Before the assembly elections, Uma had asserted that she was interested only in defeating the BJP and fielded candidates in 226 out of 230 constituencies in the state, hoping that her party votes would damage BJP's chances in Madhya Pradesh.

However, the BJS leader failed in preventing the BJP from coming to power in Madhya Pradesh for the second time in succession.

Her party won only five seats, signalling to her downfall that had began after she was expelled from the BJP, which bagged 143 seats in the polls.

Also, the firebrand leader lost the election from her constituency Tikamgarh by a margin of over 9,800 votes to Congress candidate and former minister Yadvendra Singh.

Earlier, Uma had decided against entering into the fray but later changed her mind.

The downfall in Uma's standing is significant in view of the fact that she was the BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate for the December 2003 assembly elections in the state and had helped the party to win 173 seats in the 230-member House.

Earlier Uma Bharati said that if BJP comes back to power in Madhya Pradesh, then she will quit politics and go to Kedarnath.

But making a U-turn as is her wont, she said, “In the coming Lok Sabha polls, my party Bharatiya Janshakti Party would contest all the seats.”

    ... contd.

Kedarnath callingBy: Uma_fan | 10-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward Respected Uma Ji,We are hurt to know that you have decided not to go to Kedarnath. We, your fans, can't believe that you shall go back on your own words. Is it because it is too cold there now. We can raise some donation to buy you a good sleeping bag and jacket, if you agree to accept these western things.Perhaps you dont know, we really feel your right place is Kedarnath. Away from the civilisation, you will be happy there doing your Yognas, havans, and anything else you want to do, and anything you want to speak. Poor, ignorant people of India will not miss you, because they are not yet matured enough to properly understand you. So, why disturb them? Take your seat to Kedarnath, and every year we will send pilgrims during summer season, to visit you there. With these in mind, we defeated you in election. This we did for your own benefit. Please Uma ji, please...

No ideologyBy: sankaran s | 10-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward The people of MP have given a fitting reply to the BJS leader by voting out. The party leaders should not take the people just like that. The party which has no ideology and not committed to improvements to the state as well as the country will be of no use. The people nowadays of well thinking mind. To reach safely to the same point U turn is absolutely necessary.
