  • The focus on Day One might have been on Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid, but the black band on umpire Asad Rauf’s arm didn’t entirely go unnoticed.

The Pakistani umpire wore the band in condemnation of last month’s terror strikes in Mumbai and as a mark of respect to the victims. Rauf’s gesture, however, comes later than it was intended to be, as he couldn’t obtain the visa to officiate in the Chennai Test.

“Had I come to Chennai, I would have worn the band there. Since I couldn’t get the visa for the first Test, I decided to do it here,” says Rauf.

“This is a tribute to all the victims their families. I’m equally saddened by the turn of events as any Indian,” he added.
