The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has summoned a special hearing for the 'Umpire assault case' on Friday, November 30 at their office in Wankhede Stadium. MCA will hear the physical assault case of Chandrakant Mhatre, the umpire assaulted during Kanga League G division game last month. The incident took place on October 21 at Sachivalya, Oval Maidan where umpire Mhatre was beaten up after the Kanga League game ended between Gallant CC and New Amrut CC.
The MCA had asked Mhatre to submit his report and the umpire submitted a copy of a non-cognizable complaint filed by him at the Azad Maidan Police station on October 22. Mhatre had alleged that Gallant Cricket Club officials assaulted him after day's play which Gallant CC denied later.
"We will call the umpires and observers who were appointed for that day of the Kanga league game. Reports submitted by these officials will be verified before taking any decision. If required, we will call the concerned parties who are alleged by the umpire Mhatre in this case," a top MCA official said.
MCA had delayed the umpire assault-case enquiry due to India vs England Test match preparations and are now looking to solve the case at the earliest.
MCA will also hear the case where one of the umpires was abused by Marwari Cricket Club players after few decisions went against them in the league game held on October 28. Interestingly, it turned out to be a high-profile match as Marwari CC were playing against Wellington CC which had Shiv Sena's youth wing president Aditya Thackeray.
"There will be two hearings on Friday. One will be the umpire assault-case and other will be the abuse of the umpire in another Kanga match. It will be too early to say anything about hearing as all details will be available only after it is completed," source added.
