Uncle is well, don’t spread rumours: Raj

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and former president Pratibha Patil visited Bal Thackeray at his home amid mounting concern over the Shiv Sena supremo's health.

While leaving Thackeray's home in the evening, Raj said his uncle was well. "Balasaheb had fruits and soup. He is well. Don't spread rumours," Raj said.

In the evening, former president Pratibha Patil visited the Sena chief's Bandra residence. For the past 10 days, as Thackeray's health has deteriorated, a team of six doctors has been watching him round the clock, sources said.

Thackeray was admitted to hospital earlier this year with severe stomach pain, and was suggested an endoscopy by Hyderabad-based interventional gastroenterologist Dr Nageshwar Reddy. The family, however, deferred the decision after a preliminary meeting with the doctor.

In a pre-recorded statement played to Shiv Sainiks at the annual Dussehra rally, Thackeray virtually announced his retirement. He appeared frail and breathless, triggering great concern among his supporters.

PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal paid the leader a visit at his home last week. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan called Thackeray's son Uddhav and enquired after his health.
