The seven Pakistani suspects, including Zaki ur Rahman Lakhvi, have been booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

In a possible setback to the trial of seven suspects arrested by Pakistani police for their involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks, the judge hearing the case has said he can no longer continue with the proceedings.

Citing "unavoidable reasons", Judge Baqir Ali Rana of the anti-terrorism court, who has been conducting the trial within the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, has asked the Lahore High Court to be excused from hearing the case.

Rana sent a formal request to the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday, saying he could not continue with the proceedings because of "unavoidable reasons".

The request is currently pending with the Chief Justice's office, officials said.

However, sources said that Rana took the step as he felt he was under pressure from the government and other quarters with regard to the trial of the seven suspects, including key Lashker-e-Taiba operatives Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and Zarar Shah.

The sources said Rana was also facing pressure from the lawyers of the seven suspects, who are unhappy about the trial being conducted in-camera.

The judge felt his position had been made "vulnerable" because of the move to conduct the proceedings behind closed doors. There are also reports that Rana has received threats from the LeT because the suspects were indicted in the absence of their lawyers during a hearing on October 10.

The hearing on October 10 coincided with an attacked on the Pakistan Army's headquarters in Rawalpindi by a group of terrorists.

Rana reportedly said that since the situation outside the court was uncertain, those who wanted to leave the premises could do so.

Don’t you feel shame? By: Dr. Ahmed | 22-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Think about Gujarat, Bombay riots 92-93-2002-2004 cases. Have any Judge has hung any RSS or Bajrang Dal’s mass murderer, rapists, burned-women-alive-after-rapping in riot92-93-2002-2004? Will Modi-Advani-BJP allow hanging any RSS or Bajrang Dal’s mass murderer involved in riot92-93-2002-204? They didn’t hang anyone even after fifteen/seven years of mass king, raping, did they? But TADA (or Govt of India or Modi-Advani-BJP) selectively arrested and hung only Muslims citizens in riot92-93. When Muslims citizens don’t get justice from the Government then they take law in their own hand to protect their women, children and to give justice to women, children. You call them Terrorist. What do you expect from Pakistan? Don’t you feel shame?

Judge's dilemma in PakistanBy: Dharam Bahl | 21-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Judge's dilemma in the Pakistan court clearly demonstrates that there is a lot of pressure from the government and the LeT leadership not to pursue any impartial legal action against the perpetrators, accomplices and abetters of 26/11 Mumbai attack. It shows that the Pakistan government is not sincere to bring the culprits to book. Neither have they created an impartial and transparent legal forum nor have they blocked or stopped the efforts of LeT leaders not to mingle in the legal proceedings of this case. Simple arrest and indictment of these people is just an eye wash to show some gesture in this situation - nothing constructive is going to come out of it. AGAIN, AS USUAL, PAKISTAN IS PLAYING A DUAL ROLE TO FOOL THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY.
Pakis in Indian name...By: Aslam | 21-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward What the hell is going on the discussion board? Here the issue is about anarchy in Pakistan and most of the comments are curse to India leaders. All pakis are infiltrated to the net-India too. The editor should take care about this matter and should not publish such anti India comments; it is very clear from the nature of the comments that these are terrorists itself. The world itself certified that Paki is failed state, not only the judges but also the voice of the Mr.Gilani and Mr.Sardari are also fearfull to the terrorists. The pakis are begging to all the countries in the world for the forign currency and USA thrown some pennies. Still there some pakist cursing USA, what a country and people is this? The enviable neighbor’s eye is in the others kitchen always. This is the reason why the pakis always looking at India. The pakis fear Israelis, USA, Briton, Afghanis, Chinese, European, Iran and Indians too and now wants to fear terrorists as well. Indians are fearless except to GOD

Pakistan is Bullying Us! WaahBy: Jagdish | 21-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward India is a failed state and the world is slowly coming to realise this. What country votes a foriegner to the highest office? And Twice. What country is completely powerless to protect her citizens, whether from terrorism or from an in grown insurgency? What country has the highest number of people below the poverty line? And Africa is NOT a country. The list can go on and on but there is a space issue here. Please publish this IndianExpress. Mabye the glorious Indians will realise the game is up and start thinking of alternatives to Congress/BJP rule.
Pakistan is Bullying Us! WaahBy: Indian Abroad | 22-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward I agree totally with Jagdish's comments. Further, I would like to add that Indians are now presenting themselves as a race without any self respect or self esteem. I cannot imagine a Minister in charge of security of a billion strong country that has millions under arms and boasts to be a nuclear power, running to USA and crying for help. Under the cloak of secularism, Indians are comitting a cultural suicide. Every country in the neighborhood has turned against India who is now left with no friends in the region. The Indian govt. is unable to protect the citizens from Maoists, who are getting invited by a Minister for dialogue and the govt. is incapable of punishing the sole survivor of 26/11 massacre, simply out of fear. CBI has been unable to nab Quattrocchi and the list can go on. People still keep voting for Congress and in turn get the govt. that they deserve.
