As the Delhi Police question Apollo Hospital staff in connection with their probe in the Rahul Mahajan case, under the scanner are his Rs 2.8-lakh hospital bills.
According to hospital records with the police, a noting on Mahajan bill (No. IC52006011916 with IP No. 124260) says, “Credit billing as per Raji mam.” This is an apparent reference to Raji Chandru, an associate of chairman Pratap Reddy.
Among the items in the bill:
“Bed charges: Rs 37,500 for four days between June 2 and 6
“Bio-chemistry” charges (tests): Rs 25,640
“Consultations”: Rs.25,900
“Other services”: Rs 1,07,850
Total bill: Rs 2,84,623.54
This bill, along with that of Bibek Moitra (Rs 8,120), will form a key element of the questioning of Chandru and other hospital staff by the investigation team headed by ACP B B Chaudhury tomorrow.
When contacted by The Indian Express, Chandru said she had “nothing to say” and that Karan Thakur, Apollo hospital’s spokesman, would explain the matter.
Thakur said there was “nothing to comment” and that the bill “was paid by the family of Mahajan.” But Ramesh Gupta, counsel for Rahul Mahajan, said he had “no knowledge” about the payment of the bill. “Who paid, how it was paid, I don’t know,” Gupta said.
