It is, again, time for college admissions. The trip to the university is mandatory if you are ready for your undergraduate course, but you need not take the long road to the campus for every little thing. There are websites giving lowdown on admissions and scholarships and even connecting students to seniors willing to part with their class notes.
The site searchmycampus.com lists over 100 universities across India. The information ranges from accommodation available on the campus to students offering lecture notes, second-hand books and computers, and even suitable places where you can apply for part-time jobs. “These are useful details for students,” says Vidha Jain, programme manager of the website, who has a network of students doing the groundwork in each campus.
Voicetap, a portal that was launched in April, facilitates telephonic interaction between students and experts, academicians and seniors who have successfully cracked entrance examinations. The procedure is simple. The Voicetap team gets an expert to talk to students over a conference call. If they had doubts about a career in banking, Ambuj Chandna, head (western zone), ING Vysya Bank, answered their questions. When they could not figure out whether to go to Lady Shri Ram College or Miranda House, students from the two colleges were online to give a comparative study. Till now the site has conducted over 40 conference calls. Students can log on to scholarshipsinindia.com for an update on the scholarships available. For details of admission notifications and applications, you can log on to admissiondates.com and admissionnews.com.
