Unified admission trials likely in sports

This year,the selections for admission to both the sports hostels and sports colleges are likely to be done through unified trials. Till now the start of the selection process for admission to sports hostels— through the district level trials,used to begin from May while the selection process for the sports colleges in the form of distribution of prospectus used to start in February. The prospectus has not been distributed as yet. While there are two sports colleges in UP— one at Lucknow and the other at Gorakhpur,there are 35 sports hostels across Uttar Pradesh which are located at various sports centres.

A sports department official claimed that the idea behind the unified trials is to “bring all the institutions within a system so that better monitoring of the trials could be done.” He said that though the trials for the sports colleges and the sports hostels will be held on the same dates,there will be separate lists of those who finally get selected for sports hostels and those who get selected for sports colleges and players will be given the option as to whether they are interested in getting admitted to a sports hostel or to any of the two sports colleges.

The selection trial procedure is also likely to undergo a change.
