The students of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VSGNU) will get a 15-digit unique identification number from this academic year.

The Unique Enrollment ID Code will help the authorities find students’ details like their college, course, exam results, and present and permanent addresses among others.

The move comes close on the heels of online declaration of the university exam results. The Computer Science department of the university has come up with a Unique Enrollment ID Code system on the instruction of Vice-Chancellor Babu Prajapati.

“We will use this system from the academic year 2009-10. A form has been made, which will be filled up by the students with all their details,” Prajapati said. The students will be required to fill up the form at the time of admission after completing their school.

The identification number will remain valid till the student completes the course at any of the colleges.

Their details will be updated after every year. The new

system is expected to make the enrollment process smooth, as, till now, it is done manually.

Prajapati added, “The programme is ready with us and we have invited all the colleges affiliated with VSGNU to send at least two persons each for training on the new system.” The data collected from the colleges will be sent to the university academic section and later stored in the Unique Enrollment ID Code system.

Every year, over 40,000 students get enrolled with VSGNU, which has 78 grant-in-aid colleges, 129 self-finance colleges, 87 postgraduate centres.
