The auction of vehicle numbers of L-series by the Registration and Licensing Authority (RLA) did not receive much response with the highest bid being Rs 1.76 lakh for the number CH-04-L-0009. Thirty numbers were auctioned generating revenue of Rs 77,3500 for the RLA.
The authority invites applications from residents when a new series of registration numbers is launched. An auction is held, when the number of applicants is more than one.
A bid of Rs 1.76 lakh for number 0009 was received against a reserve price of Rs 15,000. The number was allotted to Gagan, an employee of Shreyans Oil Limited for a Skoda Superb. The second highest bid was for number 0001 that was auctioned for Rs 1.50 lakh against a reserve price of Rs 25,000. This was allotted to a resident of Sector 9.
The other single-digit numbers included number 0002 auctioned for Rs 50,500, 0003 for 15,000, 0004 for Rs 30,000, 0007 for Rs 90,000 and 0008 for Rs 17,000.
While single-digit numbers are considered a status symbol, there were also many takers for double-digit numbers. Numbers like 9999 and 8888 were auctioned for Rs 10,000. A resident wanted the number 0024 since all his vehicles had the same number. It was finally auctioned for Rs 20,000.
Applications were received for the number 5050 also. But there was no bidder during its auction, making it the only number among the 30 that could not be auctioned.
