Unnao zila panchayat member found dead

Singh said Kanaujia had left his home on a motorcycle and it was found parked close to his body.

A member of Unnao zila panchayat was found dead near a canal in Malihabad police station area of Lucknow Thursday morning. The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.

A resident of Mahdoiya village informed the police about a body lying near a canal on the Lucknow-Unnao border. The body was later identified as that of Umesh Kanaujia,28,a resident of Gagan Bachhauli village in Auras area of Unnao district,by his father Subedar Kanaujia.

Senior Sub-Inspector Shyam Singh, who is investigating the case,said there were no visible injury marks on Kanaujias body. He said the postmortem examination of the body has been conducted but he is yet to receive its report.

Singh said Kanaujia was a sitting member of Unnao zila panchayat,adding he had left his house Wednesday evening to attend a marriage but did not return.

Singh said Kanaujia had left his home on a motorcycle and it was found parked close to his body. He said police will lodge a case after coming to know of cause of death.
