UoP stalls affiliation plan for Andaman and Nicobar colleges

After the proposal was sent in August, the UoP had decided to send a three-member team to Andaman & Nicobar.

"We had decided to send a delegation but it was put on hold as there was no response from them," said Dr V B Gaikwad, director, Board of College and University Development (BCUD).

The Andaman & Nicobar administration wanted affiliation for its engineering colleges. The main reason for the proposal not taking off was also the bureaucratic hurdle, said officials. "The highest authority with whom we had discussions on the proposal was transferred before finalising the deal. The new in-charge did not seem to pursue the issue. So, we also did not take any further steps," said Gaikwad.

Recently a delegation from Poland also visited the varsity to discuss a dual degree programme under the faculty of social sciences. "They visited the campus a month ago. We have already passed a resolution and the first draft has been sent to Poland. We are waiting for their response," said Gaikwad.

The delegation had discussed possibilities of exchange programmes for students. "They were keen on starting a dual degree programme under the faculty of social sciences. There will be exchange programmes and the final degree will be given by their university. The details are yet to be worked out. We hope to complete all procedures before next academic year," said Gaikwad.

The Dubai campus of UoP had recently closed owing due to no new admissions. The authorities had argued that the campus was 110 km from Dubai, which was the main reason for not finding takers. The Dubai authorities have reportedly paid back Rs 25 lakh to the university and closed the deal.
