UP Board set to introduce grading system

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Siksha Parishad (UP Board) is set to introduce grading system a concept of the Central Board of Secondary Education in its Board examinations.

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Siksha Parishad (UP Board) is set to introduce grading system a concept of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in its Board examinations.

When the system becomes operational,students will be given grades instead of marks and percentage. A detailed report regarding the benefits of grading system and changes in syllabus according to the CBSE and Indian Council of Secondary Education (ICSE) is being prepared, said a Board official. A high-level committee under Rajya Siksha Yojana Samiti has been entrusted with the task,he added.

The committee comprises former CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguli,Director of State Council for Educational Research and Training Achala Khanna,Board Director K M Tripathi,Secretary Prabha Tripathi and a few additional secretaries.

So far,three meetings have been held in this connection. The meetings have discussed upgradation of the syllabus,introduction of the grading system and change in the evaluation pattern of answer sheets. According to the committee members,the marking system was responsible for the increasing number of suicide cases and growing stress among students.

We need a few more meetings to finalise the project. It will probably be implemented from the next academic sessions if everything goes well, said a committee member.
