UP Chief Electoral Officer to be honoured for creating awareness

The Election Commission will felicitate UP Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha for the steps he took for creating awareness among voters before the UP Assembly elections in 2012. The commission will also facilitate two other IAS officers and an IPS officer with the best electoral practices award. Sinha would be felicitated on National Voters Day in Delhi on January 25 for taking innovative steps, which led to the highest poll percentage in UP's history.
The other officers who would be awarded for innovative ideas for voters' awareness include Kamini Ratan Chauhan and Surendra Singh (both IAS) and Ram Krishna Bhardwaj (IPS).
Kamini and Surendra have been selected jointly for the first prize of 'best electoral practices award' for their voter awareness-related initiatives in Bulandshahr and Firozabad respectively when they were posted as District Magistrate there. Ram Krishna Bhardwaj has been selected for third prize in best electoral practices award jointly with Jhabua (Madhya Pradesh) District Magistrate Jayshree Kiyawat.
"Bhardwaj has been selected for award for his effective planning by good vulnerability mapping and setting up static surveillance check posts in Barabanki where he was posted as SP during Assembly elections," said Ramesh Chandra Rai, Deputy CEO. The Commission has selected six district-level officers for the award from across the country and three of them are from UP.
SP to field 'Bablu' for Bhatpar Rani by-poll
The Samajwadi Party has decided to field Ashutosh Upadhyay 'Bablu', who is the son of former minister Kameshwar Upadhyay, for the Assembly by-election for the Bhatpar Rani seat in Deoria district on February 23.
The seat fell vacant on the death of Kameshwar Upadhyay, who was Sports and Youth Affairs Minister in Akhilesh Yadav's cabinet, on October 29.
