Up Close And Personal With PZ is a brand new chat-show,hosted by Preity Zinta. The show has Bollywood celebrities sitting on the couch and having an intimate one-on-one conversation with the actress. Set up at Preitys very own penthouse that is decorated all pink by the actress, the show promises to reveal all things personal about the stars.
In the opening episode,Preity gets her friend Salman Khan, with who she has done a lot of films. Just as Salman enters, seeing his Bodyguard
T-shirt on,one gets a feeling that the show would be used as yet another platform to promote their upcoming films. But thankfully,Preity proves our instincts wrong as she takes the viewers on a ride where they get to plumb the unexplored life of the stars. It is really interesting to watch how the actress comes out to him and confesses how she had a crush on him when she was a schoolkid. Salman too takes up the opportunity to disclose some of the interesting incidents about his family while he was growing up. The actor reveals how his brother Arbaaz used to run away wearing his clothes and also how he and his friend sold a valuable brass utensil for 20 rupees to a kabadiwala and later got caught by his dad.
Preity also showcases some of the never-seen-before snaps of Salman. The actress not only displayed the baby pics of the actor but also some unpublished working stills like one where the actor posed with Sanjay Dutt during Saajan or a picture that had Salman,Aamir Khan and Neelam together in a still from Andaz Apna Apna, where Salman revealed that Neelam was supposed to be a part of the film. There was also a picture of Salmans Ganesh festival celebrations that take place every year at his home.
The show also did a bit for the society where the star and the host shot for a poster, that was later put on for an auction. The money garnered was to be donated to an NGO.
To make the show even more entertaining,Preity had also added some impromptu elements, like the guests need to enact a scene on a given situation. She also made Salman endorse a beauty product just as they do it on Tele-brands,dramatically.
Though the first episode looked amusing,it is a wait-and-watch situation to see if the flavour of the show remains intact. At times,Preitys bubbly and charming nature looks way too put-on and forced as she tries to be over-friendly! Overall, the makers of the show tried a lot to do something new and different but nothing stands out to look fresh and interesting. For me,over a large number of chat-shows sprouting around different TV channels,it is Koffee With Karan that still retains its brew and spills the beans on celebrities and their life.
Verdict: Preity is a better reality TV show host than a chat-show host. We liked her more in Guinness Book Of World Records,Ab India Todega than this show.
