UP CM to visit Muzaffarnagar a day before PM

Akhilesh will also visit Basikala,Kutuba and other violence-hit villages.

With Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expected to visit riot-hit Muzaffarnagar on Monday,UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav too announced a visit to the area on Sunday.

ADG (Law and Order) Arun Kumar confirmed that Akhilesh will visit Muzaffarnagar on Sunday. “Though no official intimation has been received about the PM’s visit to Muzaffarnagar on Monday,we have been briefed about it. We are making all preparations for the visit,” Kumar said.

According to the official itinerary,Akhilesh will land at the Police Lines in Muzaffarnagar at 9:30 am and proceed to Kawal village,where three youths from two different communities were killed on August 27,leading to the violence. Akhilesh will also visit Basikala,Kutuba and other violence-hit villages. He will also travel to neighbouring Shamli district and brief the media at Police Lines.

After attending a function in Lucknow on Saturday,Akhilesh said his programme was being finalised and he would definitely visit Muzaffarnagar.

Earlier,after the national executive meeting of the Samajwadi Party in Agra on Thursday,party president Mulayam Singh Yadav also mentioned that his son will visit the riot-hit district.

Akhilesh was expected to visit the riot-hit areas over the weekend as the Assembly session would begin from Monday and continue till September 20.

Akhilesh,who met party leader Azam Khan at the latter’s residence on Friday,also apprised him about the proposed visit. Azam is reportedly annoyed over the violence and had skipped the national executive meeting of the party,which was held on September 11-12.
