UP Cong wants Priyanka to address poll meetings

There is a demand from almost all UP constituencies for at least one meeting by Priyanka to bolster the poll prospects of party nominees.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may have no plans to contest elections but there is a growing demand from almost all constituencies for at least one meeting by her to bolster the poll prospects of party nominees.

“The UPCC has received demands for Priyanka Gandhi’s election meeting from candidates and workers in all the constituencies and we have forwarded it to the AICC,which will chalk out the campaigning programme,” party spokesman Subodh Srivastava said.

Priyanka has stated that she has no plans either to contest elections or to enter politics but will only campaign for her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and brother Rahul Gandhi.

Among others,who are in maximum demand throughout the state,are new entrant into the party and former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin along with Muslim faces like Gulam Nabi Azad and Rashid Alvi,Srivastava said.

Besides,Sonia Gandhi,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Rahul,the AICC general secretary,are the most sought after names,Srivasatava said. A total of 25 national leaders and 20 state leaders will campaign across the state,he said.

“The programme is being chalked out in a manner so as to ensure that one central leader each is present during filing of nominations in all the constituencies of the state,” he added.
