  • The Uttar Pradesh government Friday assented to prosecute BJP parliamentarian from Pilibhit Varun Gandhi for his inflammatory speech in Pilibhit district on March 8.

The government’s nod has paved way for filing of chargesheet against the MP.

The decision came after the Pilibhit district administration

received a report from Forensic Science Laboratory in Chandigarh which confirmed that the voice in the recording was of Varun Gandhi.

“The government has given the sanction to prosecute Varun Gandhi in the case. The report has been sent to the Pilibhit district administration,” Secretary (Home) Mahesh Gupta said.

Police said they are waiting for formal orders to file a chargesheet under Section 153 A of the Indian Penal Code (promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion) against the Pilibhit MP.

Varun is currently out on bail.
