UP govt sits on study leave plea, IPS officer moves tribunal

The 1992 batch IPS officer, Amitabh Thakur, who had cleared CAT in 2007 and had received admission call from the Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow, has approached Central Administrative Tribunal after the state government failed to take a decision on his study leave application.

On April 30, 2008, Thakur had written to state principal secretary (home) requesting for two-year study leave from June 10 so that he could join the IIM. Almost a year has passed but the state government is yet to grant him leave.

Under rules, an officer is entitled to get study leave after completing a minimum of seven years of service, if he is not superannuating within the next three years. But in spite of sending several reminders, Thakur received no information on the status of his application.

Meanwhile, the IIM-L authorities at first extended Thakur's date of joining and later also accepted his request to allow him to join in the next academic session.

Amitabh Thakur is at present the Superintendent of Police (Intelligence) Faizabad.
