  • The Uttar Pradesh Government has written to the Faizabad district court to withdraw criminal cases against its two tainted ministers.

The two BSP ministers — Ram Achal Rajbhar (transport) and Dharam Raj Nishad (fisheries) — have criminal cases pending against them. Criminal cases of arson and riot were filed against them about 10 years ago at Gosaiganj police station of the district during the BJP rule in the state.

According to sources, a letter from the state Government’s Home Department reached the Faizabad district court last week, stating the Government’s intention to withdraw cases against Rajbhar and Nishad.

Hearing the case on Tuesday, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Gyan Prakash issued notices to the then in-charge of Gosaiganj police station Vinod Kumar Singh, and both the ministers, asking them to record their statements on September 19.

On April 15, 1998, the BSP leaders had started an agitation against the administration by jamming the Faizabad-Azamgarh Highway regarding some local problems and damaged public property, including some roadways buses.
