UP: Man chops off tongue inside temple

An unidentified man chopped off his tongue and made it as an offering at a temple.

An unidentified man chopped off his tongue and made it as an offering at a temple here today and after horrified people present at the spot handed him over to the police he managed to flee while being taken to a hospital.

The incident took place at the Swami Narayan temple at Baluaghat locality this evening where one of the devotees took out a blade and chopped off his tongue and placed it at the feet of the idol,before falling unconscious,police said.

Horrified devotees present inside the temple picked him up and took him to the police station where he regained consciousness and demanded a piece of paper on which he wrote “mere andar bhagwan samaa gaye hain” (god has entered my soul).

Police were unable to ascertain his identity as he spoke incoherently and appeared to be not in a sound state of mind.

He was then being taken to a hospital for treatment but he jumped off the police vehicle and disappeared in the crowded and congested bylanes of the area,police said.

A search was on for the person who,local residents and regular visitors to the temple claim was spotted in the area for the first time and was most probably an outsider.
