  • The state Congress is planning to take on the Mayawati government over alleged shortcomings, irregularities and corruption in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme in Uttar Pradesh.

Pradeep Jain, Union Minister of State for Rural Development, will also be part of the campaign.

The NREGA cell of the UPCC is set to organise a day-long interactive session between the Union minister and farmers, gram pradhans as well as the members of the monitoring unit of the NREGA cell in Lucknow in the second week of August.

“Our monitoring teams have evidence of misappropriation of funds in these areas and these would be presented before the minister,” said Sanjay Dixit, in-charge of the NREGA cell.

The minister will also make surprise visits on the basis of this feedback.

“The idea is to expose the government,” Dixit said. After the session, Jain will personally inspect the areas where maximum anomalies have been reported as well as check the master rolls. The visits will continue for almost a month.

According to sources, in order to prepare the ground, the NREGA cell has already identified 10 worst performing districts. Most of the districts are from eastern UP — Gonda, Sonbhadra, Gorakhpur, Kaushambi.

During a recent visit to Lucknow Jain had visited Barabanki, where he checked the NREGA sites, master rolls as well as interacted with the workers.
