The masterplan for the upcoming international airport in the city confirms that it is an excellent example of green architecture. The entire building has been planned in accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) norms to utilise all natural resources to the maximum.

The building boasts of an independent sewerage plant,besides a rain water harvesting system. All the waste collected will be disposed of in the sewerage plant in the airport itself,taking care of the hassle of transferring the litter from one area to another.

To have a regular flow of water,the building will be equipped with a Hydro Pneumatic system,under which boosters will be installed to provide a continuous supply of water at a proper pressure. The system will reduce the use to electricity to pump water to the different areas in the airport complex. A waste water treatment plant shall also be set up where the water will be recycled and put to various use.

Landscapes have also been planned for the upcoming international airport. Both the apron and the hangar will have one landscape each. In addition,the main terminal building towards the city side will also boast of a landscape.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to plant 1,500 silver oak trees and the project is being handled by Kalyanmaijee,AAI’s women welfare association. Care has been chosen to attract those trees that attract birds the least.

In the construction design,we have ensured that the upcoming building is environment-friendly and all the resources provided by nature are being utilised to their maximum,” said a senior airport official.

The roof of the main terminal building has been proposed to be built in a way to allow maximum sunlight,while reducing the dependence on artificial light,during daytime,to a minimum.

A senior official said the models of the Singapore and the Beijing international airport were discussed in the last meeting. The official added: “We intend to finalise the design plan in the next meeting of the joint venture,but it is final that it will be a green airport,and all issues related to environment are taken care of during the construction.”
