  • Proceedings in the Lok Sabha on Thursday were marked by an uproar after BJD leader Brij Kishore Tripathy raised the issue of a supposed violation of security rules by Rahul Gandhi during his recent visit to Orissa.

Tripathy said the incident had put the Orissa Government in a difficult situation. As the Congress members created a ruckus, the NDA members stood up in support of Tripathy, making it difficult for Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to be heard.

While Congress president Sonia Gandhi watched from the front bench, Rahul was not present in the House. He, however, turned up before the debate ended.

Raising the matter during zero hour, Tripathy said Rahul had left the NALCO guesthouse in Naxal-infested Koraput district for an “undisclosed destination” on March 7, without taking the state police into confidence. He said Rahul was away for four hours. The BJD leader claimed that an SPG official prevented the district police superintendent from following him. Responding on behalf of the Government, Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi said he appreciated the “concern” shown by the Orissa Government and promised to convey the point raised by Tripathy to the Home Minister.
