US Congress sought determination from Obama admin that the fund will not be used to affect the 'balance of power in the region'.

US Congress on Friday passed a bill that sets tough new restrictions on military assistance to Pakistan and seeks determination from Obama administration that the fund will not be used to affect the 'balance of power in the region'.

The Defence Authorisation Bill for 2010 includes the amendments by Senators Bob Menendez and Bob Corker, according to which the Secretary of Defence and the Secretary of State are required to give a determination that the payment is both in the national interest of the US and it will not affect the balance of power in the region.

The determination has to be given before Pakistan is reimbursed with Coalition Support Fund. The new limits also include efforts to track where US military hardware sent to Pakistan ends up.

US Senate voted 68-29 in favour of $680 billion defence spending bill, which was earlier adopted by the House of Representatives by a vote of 281-146 on October 8. The bill now goes to President Barack Obama for his approval.

The move came as Pakistani military fought through the sixth day of a major offensive against militants in the restive South Waziristan, a Taliban stronghold.

"We can't lose sight of the very reason Pakistan receives these funds: they are a reimbursement for expenses incurred fighting terrorists and supporting US-led efforts to do the same," Menendez, a Democrat from New Jersey said.

"That fight is important to our own national security, and we have to ensure that our support for it is not being squandered or diverted. It is not only right for us to ensure that American taxpayer money does what it is intended to do, it is our duty as stewards of the national security and of taxpayer money," he said.

US never was a freind freind for anyBy: William | 24-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Americans were always very clear they used their partner countries for their own interest, Gulf for Oil and Pakistan as an allay who was stratergically located who can counter Russia and China, of late if is paying for its own mistakes in Pakistan which it is getting corrected. Taliban is the idea floated by Saudi Arabia and financed and supported by US, when many rushed towards the power vacume, but illitera, ideologically mutilated mind of Afghans, cash rich by stupid Americans buy back wapon policy, made them multi millionaire and gave them free access to opium and weapons, Zia's era all those fundamentals rised and created their own space, whcih countering today is like slaughtering them, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and US, created an ideologi of "Jihad" and misplaced its original thinking and to rewind that mistake, Pakistani Government has to slaughter their sheep, what a shame, Dear freinds at Middle East awake and realise that America never was anybody's Freind.
US Congress imposes 'India-centric' riders on aid to PakBy: Ratan Gupta | 24-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Pentagon officials have told the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee in the House that every gallon of gasoline delivered to US troops in Afghanistan costs American taxpayers $400. According to reports, the US Marines in Afghanistan use 800,000 gallons of gasoline per day. At $400 per gallon, that comes to a $320,000,000 daily fuel bill for the Marines alone. Only a country totally out of control would squander resources in this way. It costs $750,000 per year for each soldier they have in Afghanistan. While the US government squanders $400 per gallon of gasoline in order to kill women and children in Afghanistan, many millions of Americans have lost their jobs and their homes and are experiencing the kind of misery that is the daily life of poor third world peoples. Americans are living in their cars and in public parks. Industrial production has collapsed to the level of 1999, wiping out a decade of growth in industrial output. Folks! it is time for us to change our policies.
Pak humiliatedBy: Hero Vaz | 23-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Pakis humiliation by their best friend is complete. The stupid Americans have finally realised how untrustworthy their friend is. India has suffered on account of the aid given to Pak brainlessly. It is a pity India did not have the balls to stand up to the Americans and tell them to their face that their uncontrolled aid to Pak amounted to enemy action against India.
STUPID AMERICANSBy: NIRANJAN | 24-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward IF IT WAS NOT FOR THE 'STUPID AMERICANS', WE WOULD HAVE BEEN SPEAKING GERMAN OR JAPANESE OR CHINESE NOW. BUT FOR THEM MANY OF OUR PEOPLE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RECEVING MONEY FROM THEIR RELATIVES IN USA TO SURVIVE. THE LIST CAN GO ON.
What are you Smoking ?By: Rahul | 24-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward 1) Can you tell me what is the link between America
Pakisthan is good at bluffing and would build on against india on american aid as usualBy: Adnan Fukar | 23-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward I think giving BVR air to air missiles are not for war against terror as far as I am aware the taliban and aal qaida dont have air force. Giving New F-16 to pakisthan and allowing pakisthan to modify Harpoon missiles are few examples. What is most scary is the nuclear arsenal may fall to terrorists. What has US done to safegaurd and acquire the nuclear warheads
