The US said on Thursday that it was "doing everything" to make sure that Pakistan smashes terror groups like Lashkar-e-Toiba and denies them safe havens, as India remembered 183 people who fell to terrorists' bullets in attacks on Mumbai exactly a year ago.

US National Security Adviser Gen (retd) James Jones said it was in Pakistan's self-interest to take on all kinds of terrorist organisations and if it did so, it would get international support and much more economic assistance.

"I can assure you that we have made our position very clear (to Pakistan). We continue to have daily interaction (with Pakistan), we are doing everything, we can to encourage them to disarm all of them because I said it is in their own interest," Jones said in an interview.

"There is no question that the so-called safe havens in Pakistan are deeply troubling our efforts," he said. The National Security Adviser said President Barack Obama feels deeply about the Mumbai attacks and there was a "common cause" between the two countries on the issue.

He said terrorism in any form is not acceptable and India and the US would work closely to reduce that threat. Jones has just returned from Pakistan where he delivered a message from the Obama administration asking Islamabad to step up pressure and reorient its fight against Taliban and al-Qaeda.

"We believe that it is in Pakistan's self-interest that they take on all terrorist organisations they know are existing and they know where they are existing within their borders.

    ... contd.

Terrorist Organizations and PakistanBy: Syamasundara Prasad Turaga | 27-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Dear Editor, it is a game plan and ultimate gainer will be Pakistan. Since ages Pakistan is encouraging the terrorism as a part of policy and doctorin of Islam-- Hate all other religions. If Pakistan does act according to US, it is suicidal to itself. Since the entire country is a strong hold of TALIBAN and they believe to the depth of their heart that the killer gets Heaven if he kills a coffieer ie nonbiliver of Islam. So I think Mr Obama is wasting his time and money over Pakistan. The only thing the world leaders should isolate Pakistan socially, politically, and deny all aids and economic help and the Pakistan will be humbelled in no time.
Islam and terrorismBy: Jem Hassan | 28-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward It is all made up stories of Saffron publication which tirelessly campaign against Muslims and Islam and aligning Islam with terrorism. There is not a single word in Qur'an which says to kill a non-believer.The fact is Qur'an says 'If you kill an innocent person, it is equal to kill all people on earth'. So what you have been taught by Saffron publication is taken out of context from the Qur'an that it urges to kill non-believers.Also Islam teaches'Saving life is equal to save all mankind'.You should not get these perspectives from Zionist-Saffron-Orientalist nexus of anti-Islam. Krishna advised Arjuna that he would get 'heaven' if he dies in the battle and kingdom if he wins'.Nobody interpreted from that lesson that all Hindus should fight against their cousins to and they get 'heaven'.Nobody said that Melegauv bombers were inspired by these words and all Hindus should be put on trial for their actions. So please dont tarnish Islam and Muslims for few anti-social objects in the world who actually are killing Muslims at mass in Pakistan,Iraq and Afghanistan. How can you say then that they fight against non-believers as per Qur'anic doctrine?.. or are you a victim of such propoganda or misunderstanding?
Now it has become a common cause.By: NP Singh | 27-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward After the one on one meeting the Terror emanating from Pakistan has become a common concern of the US and India. Now on the Pakistani terror should be diminishing slowly and gradually. Now we have a reason to believe JONES that all the infrastructure of terror on the Pakistani soil will have to be dismantled by the host country as the two countries now have a MoU to fight the Pakistani terror together and the Pakistan establishment will no longer be able to fool the US and India separately.Der se aye par daroost aye ( delayed decision has come belatedly thou. ) Can the ISI and the Pakistani Army take on the US and India together.? No way.Kayani will feel the Intense Heat and there is all the probability that he might yield.Obama along with Manmohan Singh has played his trump card which is expected to win hands down.Good God.
Liars allBy: Hero Vaz | 27-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The US is associating with the Paki liars too much with the result that the Americans too have become liars. If the Americans were truly honest in their efforts, the LeT infra would have disappeared by now.
Better to recognize full reach of Indian law to defeat terrorBy: N J Ramesh | 27-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Since 9/11, US has been in pursuit of AQ terrorists. That its leadership is in Pakistan is well known. Recently US Sec of State said in no uncertain terms that somebody within Pak govt knew exactly where they were. She later declared, as NY Times reported, that US agenda was limited to defeating AQ only, possibly implying disinterest in Taliban. Everything possible done by US has not really delivered them a decisive outcome and unlikely to do so until the policy premises since 9/11 are reviewed. Let them remember it was ABV who first offered Indian cooperation which Colin Powell ignored and opted to make Pakistan afrontline state and a NATO partner. The fountainhead of National security policies must always be Constitutional values. They can not be computed on basis of history nor feasibility nor continuity of power equations as was done by Powell team. Indian leadership drawn from different religions, ethnicity and languages can concur to defend because legal principles are sound.
LeTBy: A. Pradeep | 27-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward When it comes to USA statements and assurances on Pakistan, India must use the "Trust but Verify" approach. The USA is blinded by its friendship with Pakistan. Unfortunately, it's only a matter of time before the Pakistanis pull a "Major Hassan" on them. After all, what Muslim likes to kill his brothers for a Kafir satan like the USA?
