Our relationship with India is strategic and important: US

In a balancing act, the United States termed its relationship with India as "strategic and important" while calling Pakistan a "treasured friend and ally".

The views of the Obama Administration about Pakistan and India came in two back to back press conferences at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department in response to queries related to the Asian neighbours.

Special US Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Richard Holbrooke, said the Obama Administration views Pakistan as a "treasured friend and ally" which is in a situation where American support is called for.

Soon afterwards, Ian Kelly, State Department spokesman, said at his daily press briefing that "our relationship with India is strategic and important".

"We are conducting our assistance with Pakistan in a very open and transparent way in general, with the public, with the media and with important strategic partners like India," Kelly said when asked about New Delhi's concerns about US aid to Pakistan.

Relations with USABy: Anant | 26-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward India should get wise. Take with thanks whatever Americans give us and say bye bye nicely when they go. Americans have always used people and countries for their benefit so it should not be a surprise.
USA's double speakBy: Surjeet | 26-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward One of the writers has rightly stated, the USA always thinks of her own benefit. Correct, so must we all. BUT what ever we do our diplomacy or policy to manage Internatioanl Relations have to be value based, as value do not change. But the USA policies are shallow and not well thought out or researched. They are prone to shooting from the hips.Otherwise how could America as a democracy give India such a shabby treatment.India therefore should not overly bank on America. It will only disappoint us, come what may. They keep pouring billions into Pakistan, without putting any deadlines or guidelines for end use of funds. Realistically speaking this is not practical too. America needs to do a cold shoulder act to Pakistan. Half the world's problems will be resolved. This needs to be tried just once. America should call the bluff once atleast.
REMAKKKABy: kalki | 25-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward US GOVT. NEVER HELP ANY COUNTRY BUT IT LOOK BENEFIT FROM OTHERS COUNTRY.INDIAN GOVT.SHOULD FRIENDLY WITH NEIGHBOUR COUNTRY BUT NOT CLOSE WITH AMERICA.DON'T FORGET,AMERICA BLOCKED US TO GET CREOGENIC TECHNOLOGY FOR ROCKETS. AMERICA IS SELFISH COUNTRY.NOW,AMERICA AIM TO MAKE POLITICS WITH INDIA,PAKISTAN AND CHINA.OUR GOVT MADE GENIUS ADVISERS FOR OUR BETTER FUTURE PLAN.OUR GOVT SHOULD RELY ON THEMSELVES.OUR INDIANS SHOULD FORGET RELIGION AND SHOULD THING WE ARE FIRST INDIAN AND AT LAST RELIGION.NOW INDIA NEARLY FUTURE WILL FACE WATER SCARCITY DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE
Living in the Lions DenBy: Mohsin khan | 25-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Every country look after their interests, what's wrong if Pak is looking after theirs. They tk side with the USA after 9/11 in the 'War on Terror' for their people interest. Pak could be bombed to the stone age by the USA that time. Pak tried to save its country and its people from that onslaught. Bieng allied of US and west, Pak has the opportunity to fool west and milk USA
Us double talkBy: C.Swaminathan | 25-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward It is not a new thing to Uncle Sam to do double talk. They always pinch the child and make it cry then swing the cradle to silence the baby. One more thing, Obama is half Muslim so automatically he will sympathise Pakkis att the same time he will act asif he is the true Gandhian follower. So India should not fall pry to US.
