Muslims protest against the Mumbai terror attacks in Ahmedabad.

The United States has told Pakistan it expects nothing short of complete cooperation in investigations into the terrorist rampage in India, and Pakistan's response will be a test of the will of the new civilian government, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Monday.

Talking tough with Pakistan, the Ministry of External Affairs in India has summoned the Pakistan High Commissioner after strong links to Pakistan in the Mumbai terror attack emerged.

"What we are emphasizing to the Pakistani government is the need to follow the evidence wherever it leads," Rice said. "I don't want to jump to any conclusions myself on this, but I do think that this is a time for complete, absolute, total transparency and cooperation and that's what we expect."

At President George W. Bush's direction, Rice is cutting short a European trip to visit India later this week. Attacks spanning three days killed more than 170 people in the Indian commercial capital Mumbai, including six Americans.

Indian leaders pointed fingers at "elements in Pakistan" although it is not yet clear where the well-planned operation originated.

"We share the grief and the anger of the Indian people but of course Americans were also killed in this attack and they were killed deliberately because they were Americans," Rice said during a news conference aboard her plane en route to London. "That makes this of special interest and concern to the United States."

Attackers chose sites representing the city's wealth and tourism, and reportedly sought out Westerners as victims. Rice will see Indian leaders in New Delhi. She does not plan to go to Mumbai.

Rice tells Pak to co-operateBy: N.V.SANKARAN | 04-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward It is good to hear the words of Ms.Rice. But, I think all this flurry of activities will end up in some diplomatic jingoism and when the atmosphere cools down, there will be no real action. See the response from the Pakistani government!!! They have already refused to hand-over the terrorists to India. US will not act, because they need Pakistan as an ally for their fight in Afghanistan. India should take Israel as an active partner in action for demolishing the terror camps in Pak territory, because of five reasons.1. They have the best intelligence network in the world. 2. They have the maximum experience in fighting terrorism.3. Once they launch their action, they go ahead with the single minded resolve to finish the job, unmindful of any external pressure from any part of the world.4. Once Israel gets involved, it will ensure that the western powers, particularly USA and Britain also participate in the action. 5. Israel also wants to avenge the death of their people in the Nariman House. We need not worry much about the Islamic Nations. They are not going to help anyway. Otherwise, there will be no action at all. This is not to belittle India's capability in field, but Israeli involvement will strengthen India's position and reduce external pressure to avoid any direct action.
India summons Pak ..By: K. Raghavan | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward Let nobody be fooled into believing that Rice is coming to India to express solidarity with India or to aid in investigations or put pressure on Pak to reign in militants. She is coming precisely to put pressure on India not to take any action against Pak, as for them security of Americans in Afganistan and control over it is the only objective and not concern for Indian lives lost. India should firmly tell Bush 'enough is enough' and not bow down to American pressure..
reply to indiaBy: x | 03-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward India should directly aim to the terrorist camp that has been supported by the pak government and it should not ask to UN or American government becoz the terrorist who have attacked in mumbai havent asked UN or america for dowing there activities here in mumbai
Agreed.By: Ram Prasad | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward Paksitan Will say to India and US LPC.We are just foolish. We are going day by day in US hands and latter they will use US against China.Only we will loss.We will become the dump yard of US weapons. We are Stupid.Pakistan is going away from US camp day by day and I think no nation should let US come to them. There military industries will fuel the tension whihc only we could loose.Paksitan currently have nothing to loose.Even they could be get more united if we put our forces on the border as they could redraw there forces from West Border.Rice is coming to just saying shut up to our govt on this.
Mumbai attackBy: Dr Sunil Gupta | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward If its Indias 9/11 then India should do what America did to Afganistan after Americas 9/11-Carpet Bomb this rogue country which can not produce anything exept terrorists. It is high time India should attack Pakistan and get back not only its pride but POK as well.Pakistan and Bangladesh maps should be wiped off the worlds map.
POK ?? it is termed as AZAD kashmirBy: Ram PRasad | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward Be ealistic.Occupied is the region where there could be army.We not Paksitan have 700,000 army in kashmir valley [not on border].We don't have courage to let Kashmiris decide there way where they wants to join.We know we can only get votes from some parts of jammu region only.We are just afraid.
Rice asks Pak to co-operate.By: Danesh Patel | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward Who is kidding whom? The ISI is controlled by the army which also controls the govt. Thus Pakistan is essentially a rogue terrorist state and the only way it would come round is to start terrorism on its territory by Govt. of India by forming an ISI-type agency. OR let the US entrust the task of destroying Pak's nuclear weapons to the brave Israelis who will do the job with a lightning strike.--Danesh Patel
Indians need to move from emotional to rationalBy: Taimur Malik | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward It's appalling and deeply disappointing that this so-called secular state ignores the scourge of Hindu terrorists (re: Malegaon and Samjhauta Express) and the fact that a SERVING INDIAN ARMY OFFICER, a former IB officer, played a central role. Yet Pakistan is singled out as having 'rogue army officers' that the State cannot control. Even if it is true, the difference is that Pakistan has been aware of the threats it faces for the past few years and has been doing as much as it can. It's not an easy task. India, on the other hand, with an emotionality that belies its bloated self-image, has a failed intelligence apparatus that refuses to investigate its own homegrown issues. It's an ignorance that will manifest itself in even greater tragedies in the future. The sooner Indians shed their blatant emotionality--regardless of these particular attacks, but in light of attacks that have taken plae in the past--the better.
Pakistan-International headacheBy: Priyanka | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward Before accusing Indians of being ignorant of hindu militantism,Pakistanis and other supporters of Pakistan in India should realise that they are surviving by begging the Arab Nations and US for economic help without which this country will not even be able to afford its street electricity.India has problems but Pakistan has far more problems that is a headache for the whole world.India has always been a peaceful country.Has pakistan ever told the whole world how it treats the minority community in their country.Pakistan is a country of lies,of killers and of uneducated insane people who cannot differentiate between right and wrong.I salute my great country India.
