US lures Pak with conditional offer on resolving Kashmir

US said that it would use its good offices to help Pakistan resolve the Kashmir dispute with India,but only if Islamabad shifts focus and deploys more troops on its western border.

The United States has said that it would use its good offices to help Pakistan resolve the Kashmir dispute with India,but only if Islamabad shifts focus from its eastern border and deploys more troops on its western border to fight insurgency more effectively.

According to a diplomatic source,the United States conveyed this offer during President Zardaris recent visit to Washington.

The Obama administration conveyed to President Asif Ali Zardari and other senior officials in his delegation during their trip to Washington that it is willing to use its good offices for the durable settlement of Kashmir issue, The Nation quoted the diplomatic source,as saying.

He said the United States also offered Pakistan that the water dispute between the two countries is settled amicably.

The United States is also in favour of Pakistan sustaining the military offensive against the Taliban and other extremist groups in Swat and Dir regions of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP),to quell the insurgency completely.
