US provides security equipment to Pak police

The US will provide security equipment,including troop carriers and bulletproof vests,worth USD 4.1 million to police in Pakistan's troubled North West Frontier Province.

The US will provide security equipment,including troop carriers and bulletproof vests,worth USD 4.1 million to police in Pakistan’s troubled North West Frontier Province as part of efforts to bolster their capability to counter terrorism.

Lynne Tracy,principal officer of the US consulate in Peshawar,today handed over a consignment of troop carriers,motorcycles,ballistic helmets and bulletproof vests to NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti.

More equipment,including water tankers,an ambulance,a tow truck and a mobile workshop,will be delivered to the NWFP police within three months.

America will provide security equipment worth 4.1 million dollars to NWFP police,said a statement from the US embassy.

The assistance is part of the US government’s ongoing border security project with the government of Pakistan. The equipment will be used to support counter-narcotics and anti-terrorism activities by Pakistan.
