US radio tagging Indian students inhuman: Krishna

MEA had registered its protest with US authorities over treatment meted out to stranded students.

The radio tagging by US authorities of Indian students,awaiting deportation after the exposure of a fake university in San Francisco rendered their immigration credentials dubious,was on Sunday labelled an “inhuman act” by External Affairs Minister S M Krishna.

Indicating that the Indian government will,if necessary,extend all help to bring back Indian students of the Tri Valley University,majority from Andhra Pradesh,Krishna said that the foreign ministry had registered its protest with US authorities over the treatment meted out to stranded students.  

“We demand that the US government initiate severe action against those officials responsible for this inhuman act. Indian students are not criminals. The radio collars should immediately be removed,” the foreign minister said here Sunday.

“All help will be extended to the students. Parents need not worry since the matter has been taken up with appropriate authorities,” he said.

Radio tagging is frequently used by US authorities to keep track of illegal immigrants and those under travel restrictions over other legal issues.
