Classical exponent Ustad Rahim Fahimuddin Khan Dagar died here last night after a long battle with illness. He was 84.

The vocalist,an exponent of Dagar vani Dhrupad,passed away at a private hospital here and was laid to rest today.

“He was suffering from breathing trouble and was admitted at the hospital for three and a half months. He had a stroke last December. He was unwell for a long time,” said family sources.

Dagar is survived by a wife and a daughter.

Belonging to the 19th generation of Dhrupad singers,Dagar was born in Alwar,Rajasthan,in 1927. He was initiated into the art of Dhrupad at the age of five by his uncle Ustad Nasiruddin Khan Dagar and received musical education for a period of 35 years from his father and family elders.

He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2008 and received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Ratna Purashkar last year.
