  • UT Administrator General S F Rodrigues (Retd) inaugurated a polyclinic in Maloya village on Tuesday. This is a part of the Chandigarh Rural Health Mission that aims to provide comprehensive health cover to rural people.

The project comprises a support structure equipped with modern techniques, which will ensure high-quality medical services to the people of the area.

General Rodrigues went around the polyclinic complex and inspected the various facilities and services. The next step in this programme is a telemedicine support plan.

General Rodrigues emphasised on the need to adopt a holistic and synergistic approach for giving treatment to the patients and managing clinical problems in the peripheral area. He further stressed that this process of public-private partnership to ensure basic healthcare services to the rural people and underprivileged sections must be taken forward with the collaboration of NGOs and concerned citizens.

Suggesting the need to put in place a well structured action plan for organising and extending referral services to the needy patients in government hospitals for advanced clinical tests and specialised treatment, General Rodrigues called upon the NGOs and medical professionals to help in this endeavour by arranging mobile van services for the poor patients.

Dr (Brig) M L Kataria, Chairman of Healthcare India, said on the occasion that his organisation had roped in eminent doctors, philanthropists and social activists in this rural healthcare programme and all services will be provided free of cost.

Two more rural polyclinics will be inaugurated in villages Sarangpur and Ram Darbar on July 14 and 21 respectively.
