The Administration has given another one year extension to vacant plot owners to construct on their plots.
According to the rules,if a plot remains vacant for three consecutive years,it is to be resumed (confiscated) by the Estate Office. But a plot-owner can get three one year extensions, after which the plot is automatically resumed.
The latest order is the third extension in as many years. The decision will give relief to a large number of residents.
Also, plots that were recently resumed are likely to be returned to their owners, who will be asked to construct on them within one year.
There were many demands from residents about such relaxations. We eventually worked out the modalities and announced them. Now people need to abide by the rules and complete their structures within the stipulated time, failing which action would be initiated, a senior UT official said.
In another significant decision, those who are yet to get completion certificates of their constructed buildings can apply afresh in the Estate Office. The certificate can be taken irrespective of when the building was completed.
