Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pawan Bansal has said projects sanctioned under the MPLAD scheme were being undertaken at a slow pace.
He said most of the work delayed was under the purview of the Municipal Corporation. He was speaking at the House Meet of the Municipal Corporation.
Bansal said while Chandigarh was at the top in utilisation of MPLAD funds, a large number of works were still delayed.
The issue came up for discussion as the agenda for laying paver blocks in various sectors was being discussed.
The officials informed that out of the budget allocation of Rs 1.25 crore for this year, only Rs 36 lakh has been utilised.
An amount of Rs 2 crore is allotted annually to MPs for undertaking work in their constituency.
During his last tenure Bansal had sanctioned funds for 172 works. The lion’s share had gone to education.
The residents of various sectors have also complained that while the MP had sanctioned funds, work has not been undertaken.
The residents of Sector 45 have been raising the demand for developing a greenbelt in their area.
The office-bearers of the Resident Welfare Association of Sector 45 A say that while Bansal had sanctioned funds for the development of the greenbelt work has not been started.
Rather, the benches that had been installed in the area were also removed after stating that these had been placed wrongly, said a resident.
The issue of pendency of work is raised in every other House meeting, but with no concrete results to show at the end.
