A 14 member delegation of the opposition Congress party called on the Uttarakhand Governor Margaret Alva in the wake of the Kaladhungi incident on Tuesday evening seeking that she direct the BJP led state government to ensure proper maintenance of law and order.
The delegation has also sought that a judicial probe be ordered into the incident. The delegation was led by the state Congress President Yash Pal Arya and comprised leader of opposition in the Uttarakhand assembly Harak Singh Rawat, former minister Hira Singh Bisht and senior party leader Suryakant Dhasmana besides others.
“We have sought that a sitting Judge of the High Court probe the matter. The law and order machinery in the state has totally collapsed,” said Dhasmana.
The Kaladhungi area of Nainital district area had seen large scale violence on Sunday in which a Head Constable Puran Lal Sharma had been stoned to death by an irate mob and later thrown into the inferno of a burning police station.
The trouble had started with the alleged shooting of a block level BJP leader Balwant Singh Kaniyal by a BSP activist Neeraj Tewari. Large scale violence had erupted at several places with the mob torching a large number of vehicles, the Kaladhungi Police Station and killing Head Constable Sharma.
