Vadodara Mayor Bal Krishna Shukla filed a police complaint with the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) today after a person impersonating BJP spokesman Rajeev Pratap Rudy told him that one of his men was stuck in Vadodara and needed Rs 30,000 to clear his hotel dues.
Although Shukla was not available to comment,DCB officers said that the phone call was initially made to BJP mahila secretary Darshana Jardosh on February 3.
We have traced both the mobile numbers, and one of the callers claiming to be Rudy has been identified as Durga Pal Singh. The accused asked for Rs 30,000 on February 3 from Shukla and told him that one of his men was stuck in the Surya Palace Hotel and needed the money to pay the bill, said a DCB officer on condition of anonymity.
He added: Shukla immediately checked up with Rudy and found that he did not call anyone. The call was initially made to Darshana Jardosh in Surat. Identifying himself as Rudy, the caller asked her if she knew someone in Vadodara. Jardosh gave the reference Shukla and passed his number to him. The calls came from the numbers 9769174192 and 9572387636. We will reveal the whole issue once the investigation is complete.
According to DCB Inspector J R Ramgadhiya,a case was registered on Sunday morning under sections 417,419,120 (B) and 511 of the Indian Penal Code.
