Having a rock band is one thing while selling the music and sticking to the kind of music one wants to play is another. However, Rutwij and his friends from Vadodara, who formed their band Fade in 2007, decided not to “sell” their music to any record label, and released their album on Friday at I-Mint Music store with a budget of Rs 8,000.
“We met about two and a half years ago at a basement and started jamming. We soon realised that we were a true ‘metal’ band though we were booed several times,” says Rutwij.
The band’s untitled album contains seven tracks of angst-ridden songs revealing the dark side of human nature that manifests
itself through suppressed rebellion. “At worst, you may call it whimsical, but it may also end up inspiring others to rise a little above the general level of mediocrity that pervades the (music) scene,” said 22-year-old Rutwij.
As a band, Fade had its share of twists and turns with the members leaving the group and new ones joining in. Even now, with the launch of the album, Rutwij is not sure where it is heading to. “We were hated and laughed at by the other ‘veterans’ of the ‘scene.’ We were actively put down everywhere,” he said.
“We knew the band was never going to last forever. So, when we actually managed to get here, we decided to do it with a bang,” said Rutwij, who claims to have played for an audience of five as also 5,000.
