  • Shekhar Gupta

Postscript: An apology is due to many who wrote in response to last Saturday’s National Interest, pointing out that I was wrong in describing martyr Chandra Shekhar Azad as a Rajput and that he was, in fact, a Brahmin. I stand corrected. The series of columns on Uttar Pradesh politics was built around the thesis that our voter is slowly escaping divisive Mandal-Kamandal politics and moving to the centre. This, the severity of the reaction to my getting a martyr’s caste wrong, shows there is still a long way to go. So I also stand chastened.
