Cable operators in the Valley today switched off several TV channels after being threatened by a little-known militant outfit, Al Madina Regiment, which said they were encouraging “immorality” and “waywardness” among Kashmiris.
“As a precautionary measure, we have done this. Let us see how things unfold,” said a cable operator.
But even separatist leaders said that the timing of the outfit’s diktat seemed suspicious and that it could be a ploy to shift attention from the public outcry over the Srinagar sex abuse scandal—it was first reported by The Indian Express—in which several politicians and officials are allegedly involved.
