Valley: Case against two 8216;unknown8217; Army personnel for rape

She alleged she was abducted by two Army personnel,while she was taking bath in a stream.

The Jamp;K Police today registered a case against two unknown Army men for allegedly abducting and raping a 32-year-old woman in south Kashmirs Manzgam village.

Deputy Inspector General of Police South Kashmir,Shafkat Watali,however,added that the woman,during questioning,once said the rape was committed by a civilian but later,she stuck to her first statement that she was gangraped by two unknown Army personnel.

We have already handed over the First Information Report FIR copy to the elders of the town, Watali said,and a medical board will examine the victim.

Residents protested in Kulgam district demanding the arrest of those allegedly involved. State Home Minister Nasir Aslam Wani and Social Welfare Minister Sakina Yatoo visited the town and chaired a high-level meeting.

Officials said the alleged victim,along with her relatives and elderly citizens,visited the police station at Damalhal Hanjipora and lodged a complaint of rape against unknown Army personnel.

She alleged that on the evening of July 19,while she was washing herself in a stream near her house,she was abducted by two Army personnel and taken to the Kanidajan forest where they gangraped her. She said the Army men released her this morning and threatened her with dire consequences if she complained.

Army spokesman Lt Col J S Brar said an allegation had been made by a woman and the police are investigating the case.
