The Valsad Superintendent of Police on Wednesday submitted the details of the three encounters that had taken place in the district between 2003 and 2006, to the state CID headquarters.

These encounters had taken place during the tenure of Superintendent of Police Abhaysinh Chudasma. Sanjay alias Rahul Sharad Choudhary, Dongaria Himla Machar and Haji Haji Ismail were killed in separate encounters between 2004 and 2005.

Following a PIL in the Supreme Court by social activist and journalist B G Verghese over the killings, the Valsad police handed over the details of the case to state CID headquarters a few days ago, after collecting the details.

The encounters were carried out by then Local Crime Branch Inspector K G Erda and Special Operations Group (SOG) Sub-Inspector Jitendra Yadav.

Chudasama is now the DCP-Crime Branch, Ahmedabad, while Erda was arrested in the Naroda cases by the Special investigation Team, which is re-investigating the 2002 riot cases.

Sanjay alias Rahul Sharad Choudhary, a resident of Umargam taluka in Valsad district was gunned down near R K Farm nursery near Ketli village on Bhilad Sanjan Road in Valsad district on November 26, 2004 in a joint operation by the LCB and the SOG.

According to the police, there were several charges of kidnapping and murder against him.

Machar, a poor youth originally from Madhya Pradesh had come to Valsad and had got involved in criminal activities. He was gunned down in Marai Gaon limit in Valsad district by these same team on August 25, 2005. His family members had not claimed any inquiry into the encounter as they were illiterate.
