At Government Girls High School, Lakkar Bazaar, the students and staff celebrated Van Mahotsav by planting saplings on the campus today.
Malika Rani, the school principal, explained to the students the importance of clean environment while Vijay Dishawar, a Punjabi teacher, said that everyone should plant at least five saplings during his or her lifetime and encourage others to plant as well.
On this occasion, Subhash Sondhi, a social worker, donated saplings to the school. Sondhi urged the students to plant saplings on their birthdays even as he expressed his concern over increasing pollution.
Meanwhile Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle held a tree-plantation programme at Ghamnewal village. About 1,000 saplings of fruit plants and neem plants were planted. The village has been adopted by Directorate of Social Empowerment and Economic Development of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, for overall development under NABARD scheme.
Manpreet Singh Ayali, chairman, Zila Parishad, appreciated the role of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle. Ram Singh, chief organiser of the circle, was also present there. A workshop on commercial dairy and forestry was also held.
