The college and university teachers in Haryana are up in arms against the non-implementation of the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission for them. The Haryana Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (HFUCTO) has called for a dharna and demonstration tomorrow in lieu of their demands.
Talking to The Indian Express, N S Kaushal, president HFUCTO, said more than 1500 college teachers from all over the state will participate in the dharna tomorrow at Panchkula. He said that while Haryana government had implemented the recommendations of the 6th Pay commission for all other staff, it had not done so for the college teachers and staff in Haryana.
Kaushal said the state government had failed to implement the recommendations of the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) through a notification dated December 31, 2008. MHRD had proposed revised grade of teachers, according to the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission, interim relief of 40 per cent of the arrears by April 2009, and redesignation of Readers and Lecturers with more than three years of service as on January 1,2006 as Assistant Professors and increasing the superannuation from 60 years to 65 years.
Professor Kaushal said that the Election Commission (EC) had given its nod for the implementation of 40 per cent arrears as interim relief. However, there was no assurance by the Haryana government on the revised pay structure of the teachers, and the state government still seemed to be non-committal over the issue of in toto acceptance of the MHRD notification dated DEcember 31, 2008.
