Varsity told to probe promotion of reader

Alleging that her appointment was not legal,few faculty members from Mumbai University had earlier written to governor and chancellor of universities in the state K Sankaranarayanan stating that she was promoted to the post of professor by taking into account her experience as a lecturer in a college affiliated to the university. This,they claimed,was not allowed under CAS. The letter had asked the chancellor to revoke her promotion. The governor’s office had subsequently asked the university to examine the allegations.

However,Sunny’s papers indicate that her case has been cleared by the university’s selection and scrutiny committees as well as the UGC.

Denying the allegations,Sunny said it was “the work of jealous colleagues”. “It weakened my chance of becoming the vice-chancellor of SNDT University (for which she was shortlisted),” she said. “It has become a practice in the university to cook up allegations against colleagues trying for higher posts. All decision-making bodies,from the scrutiny committee to the UGC,have cleared my case. The referees,who examined my publications,also cleared my case.”

“This is a routine letter from the UGC. The university vice-chancellor,through his letter to the Raj Bhavan,has clarified that there is no substance in allegations levelled by Hatekar against me,” she added.
