Varun Gandhi, who has been booked under NSA, refused to record his voice to the police team citing absence of his lawyer.

BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Pilibhit Varun Gandhi, currently in jail for making anti-Muslim speeches, has refused to give a sample of his voice to police.

A police team from Philibit visited Gandhi at the jail in Etah on Sunday and sought his statement and voice sample on an order by Pilibhit Chief Judicial Magistrate.

However, Gandhi, who has been booked under the National security Act (NSA), refused to record his voice to the police team citing absence of his lawyer.

Varun said he will record his voice and give statement only in the presence of his lawyer, jail authorities said, adding that the District Magistrate has directed the police not to record Gandhi's statement without his will.

Gandhi had been denying charges of making hate speeches, maintaining that the CD containing his speeches was doctored.

"These are not my words and not my voice," Varun had said after the footage was aired by TV channels.

Varun CaseBy: SVS Subrahmaniam | 07-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward After contesting the cassette, how Varun can deny the investigation on it by refusing to give the voice sample? How it is helps him? This immediately implies that his allegation may be wrong and he does not have courage to face it. All these acts will act against him and his detention under NSA will prolong. Only one word of expression of sorry for his extempore loosing of toung would have saved him and also would have fetched him in the elections to win the seat. His case should be dealt to the end and he should be punished so that others do not dare to make such inflammatory speeches. But unfortunately after him people like Lalu ji and D Srinivas APCC president also crossed their limit of talk and are inviting problems. Elections should be fought on principles and issues, but not on religion caste and inflammatory speeches.
VarunBy: m Anwar | 06-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward The leaders like varun are spineless , atleast he should stand by what he said, how this spineless would be of any help to his constituency. It is high time he should be kicked out of Pilibhit
GulityBy: Satish Haldankar | 06-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward If he claims that the voice on the CD is not his, then why is he refusing to give his voice sample to the authorities?
Varun Voice sampleBy: Sant Bahadur | 06-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Varun should cooperate with the police by giving voice sample to police as it will help him proving his innocence.
