BJP candidate Varun Gandhi,booked under National Security Act for his hate speeches,has been shifted to a high-security Etah jail following intelligence inputs that underworld don Chota Shakeel was hatching a conspiracy to kill him. Gandhi was shifted on Tuesday night under heavy security from the district prison here,official sources said. Intelligence agencies had informed the Uttar Pradesh government a week ago about an intercepted telephonic conversation between Shakeel and one of his key shooters indicating a plot to kill 29-year-old Gandhi,the day he came to surrender at a Pilibhi Court,the sources said. The details of the conversation between Pakistan-based Shakeel and his key shooter Rashid was provided to the Uttar Pradesh home department with a suggestion to take necessary steps for ensuring security of the leader,the sources said,addding the state police had increased his security while he was on way to surrender at the court. Rashid was arrested in Karnataka last week while he was planning to make a move to Pilibhit to execute the instruction of the don,they said. Gandhi has been booked under the National Security Act (NSA) for inciting communal tensions by making provocative and inflammatory speeches during meetings held on March seven at Dalganj and on March 8 at Barkhera area of Pilibhit district.
