Varun withdraws bail plea from Delhi HC

BJP leader Varun Gandhi against whom FIR was lodged for making inflammatory communal speeches,has withdrawn his bail plea from Delhi HC.

Preparing to court arrest in Pilibhit on Saturday,BJP Lok Sabha candidate Varun Gandhi withdrew his bail plea from the Delhi High Court in connection with the complaint against him for making communal speeches during the election campaign in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

Justice Reva Khetrapal dismissed Varun’s petition as withdrawn. With this,the March 20 court order staying his arrest stands vacated. Party sources said Varun will leave for Pilibhit and court arrest on Saturday.

“It is up to Varun to decide whether he wants to move the Supreme Court for extension of his bail or he wants to face the process of law. In either case,he is working within the parameters of the law,” BJP spokesman Balbir Punj said.

The counsel appearing for 29-year-old politician submitted before the Court that Varun seeks to withdraw the petition in view of Allahabad High Court’s order dismissing his plea for quashing criminal proceedings for his speeches.

The FIR was lodged against Varun in Pilibhit on the direction of election authorities after CDs containing his anti-Muslim speeches surfaced. His anticipatory bail granted by the Delhi High Court also expires on Friday.
