Vasantotsav to kick off from January 9

A grand musical gathering with the theme ‘World music’, Vasantotsav will take place on January 9, 10 and 11, 2009 at the Law College grounds.

A grand musical gathering with the theme ‘World music’, Vasantotsav will take place on January 9, 10 and 11, 2009 at the Law College grounds.

Rahul Deshpande, trustee of Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Pratisthan said, “This year, the festival will witness performances by German philharmonic orchestra along with L Subramaniam. An added attraction will be performances by SaReGaMaPa lil champs participants.”

Vasantrao Deshpande’s contribution to Indian music is well known but also irreplaceable is his position in the field of Natyasangeet. The event, this year, will also showcase rare recordings of Vasantrao Deshpande. “Vasantrao Deshpande was the pride of Maharashtra and to take this popularity across the state, we are planning to start the event at Nagpur next year or the year after that. Also, from next year, we would present a sangeet natak during Vasantotsav,” announced Rahul Deshpande.

Actor Nana Patekar, patron, Vasantotsav, said, “The specialty of Pune lies in the fact that despite the busy lifestyle, people make it a point to attend musical and cultural programmes. The main motive behind Vasantotsav is not commercial gains but to take Vasantrao’s creations and personality to the right kind of audience.” Commenting on the inclusion of young artistes in Vasantotsav, he said, “We are here to promote and present talent and the participants of SaReGaMaPa lil champs are great performers.”

For the first time, the tickets for Vasantotsav will also be available online. Ticket sales will start from December 27 at Balgandharva Rang Mandir, Tilak Smarak Mandir and Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium.
